The Carrarino Walking Tractor like Antonio Carraro's 4 wheel tractors are multifunctional, well designed and well made.  More than 200,000 are used worldwide.  The 700 series come in 9 & 12.5 Hp diesel models, and when equipped with 5.00 x 15" tires they have what it takes.  Their human scale, stability and heft give them the power to accomplish a great deal of work while the operator enjoys control from terra firma.  Geography, farm site layout and lower scale logistics for moving, sheltering and servicing a walking tractor and its implements make it the tight choice for many growers.

While they represent a major investment, they cost 1/3 less than the smallest four wheel models of comparable quality.  A nine Hp electric start model with 15" wheels and 33" wide tiller box costs $5,600.00.

Spader Implement
The benefits of spading are available to walking tractor operators as well as those with 4 wheel tractors.  Several models of spaders are manufactured for use with different walk behind tractors.  The spaders work a 24" wide swath digging 6"  deep, turning over the top 3 inches.  Those who follow the works of Elliot Coleman know he likes the work they do.

The appropriate walking tractors will have 12 or more horsepower and have 14" dia. wheels or larger.  Models like BDS's Hercules, 14 Hp Pasquali, 14 Hp Goldoni, Ferrari 728 and Carrarino all can be equipped with a spader for $2,300.00 each.

Because the spades are pushed down into the ground, the opposite reaction is to put upward pressure on the tractor, the operator must resist this reaction.  Therefore the operator must accept the using a spader with a walk behind tractor as well as desirable soil tillage.

Windrow Implement
Your walking tractor can be an effective forage production machine, too.  After you have swathed grass of alfalfa with a sickle bar mounted on your walk behind tractor, you can replace it with a belt rake that rakes hay into a windrow to complete the curing process.  The belt rake uses a pair of spriing loaded times attached to one or  more "V" belts that rake hay from left to right side of the machine from it forms a uniform windrow.  The tractors PTO powers the system so that even heavy grass is moved horizintally without damaging alfalfa's delicate leaves.  Working widths from 40" to 58" can be used with walking tractors for 9 Hp to 14 Hp. Once hey is windrowed you can bale it or pitch it onto a wagon for loose storage in a barn or loft.  Cost ranges form $1,700.00 to $2,100.00

Checchi Magli SP100 Potato Digger
Some root harvesters for potatoes, garlic and similar tubers are made in several models to work with tractors from 18 Hp and up - The Checchi & Magli pictured at left sells for $3,500.00 delivered to most places in the USA.  A lower power model, the SP50, works with 18 Hp tractors and can be delivered for about $2,850.00

Mini Tex Transplanter
The Mini Tex Transplanter is pulled by a walking Tractor or Mini Tractor.  Seedlings are fed into carousel that automatically spaces plants in row.  A variety of sprockets allow choice of spacing.  This type of transplanter can also handle large seeds and bulbs such as garlic.  It sells for $3,100.00

Hermes Flail Mower
An alternative to the more common rotary mower is a Flail mower.  Flails do a better job of cutting trash and woody material.  The horizontal rotor shaft has many pairs of swinging knives that pulverize vegetation and breakup woody stems.  Because the knives are mounted on clevises, they are free to rebound if they cannot penetrate some materials on first strike, and thus protect themselves from damage.  The vegetation tends to be cut and recut and is scattered uniformly under mower hood.  The rubber "V" belt that drives the rotor also acts to protect the gear box from shocks should a rock or other hard obstacle be struck.

All these attributes make flails ideal for mowing crop residues like corn stalks, light pruning as in vineyards and cane fruit plantings and general brush clearing operations.  Models from 24" to 39" are suitable for 12 Hp and higher walking tractors.  Prices range from $1,800.00

Goldoni Secondary Tillage Machines
One of the stand out benefits of walking tractors is their use as secondary tillage machines.  Their low weight minimizes compaction while their maneuverability encourages their frequent use to keep weed competition down from early crop emergence or soon after transplanting.  The addition of an interrow tiller attachment speeds up your field, breaks up encrusted and incorporate amendments.  Cost of interrow tiller attachment is $1,600.00 to $1,800.00

Goldoni Grain Drill
Combine a accurate metering grain drill with your walking tractor and place your grain seed or cover crop where it will flourish, do away with the hit or miss results of broadcast seeding.  Choose disc openers for heavier ground and areas less well prepared.  Or choose shoe type openers in lighter soils and those that have been well tilled.  Choose a 41" model with up to 9 openers or 47" model with 9 or 11 openers.  Your cost will be $2,500.00 to $2,900.00

Caeb Hay Baler
Bale hay with your walking tractor?  Yes it is true, round bales 22" in diameter 20" long weighing some 48 lbs. are produced and wrapped in net by this small baler. Powered from behind by a 12 Hp walking Tractor it can produce a bale in less than a minute each.  It's steerable wheels allows it to maneuver easily and its small size lets it work in confined spaces and on steep found.  The netting allows even short and crumbly vegetable matter to be harvested.  Its price is $7,100.00

Fort Powered Trailers
Powered trailer provides all terrain transport when coupled with a walking tractor.  European walking tractors offer a special second PTO that drives trailers axle at the same speed as tractors wheels to give 4X4 traction.  As pictured above a steering wheel permits the unit to be operated as an articulated vehicle to transport substantial loads.  Trailers bed can be dumped manually or with hydraulic cylinder.  They also further diversify the tasks a walking tractor can do on your diversified farm, from hauling compost at planting time to hauling in crops from the field, orchard or pasture.  Powered trailers cost $3,000.00 to $3,500.00

Imants Tiller
The Imants tiller offers you the opportunity to dig 6" to 10" deep with your 12 Hp walking tractor.  It is much like a rototiller except it has a slow turning rotor shaft and long curved shanks equipped with pointed shovels.  The action is to churn the soil to aerate it and break it up.  The design of its "shovels" and low rotor speed makes it less destructive then standard rototillers.  It can be fitted to most large European walking tractors and sell for about $2,500.00
